To make it easier for you to fulfil your commitments, our team has put together these guides to assist you to take action!
Speak up and use your voice to fight poverty
Your voice is a powerful tool in the fight against extreme poverty.
As people passionate about the challenges faced by the 1.4 billion people living in extreme poverty and our opportunity to end it within a generation – we are in a powerful position to grow the global movement by sharing our knowledge and inspiration within our communities.
Why is this important? Extreme poverty is a complex problem – and the more people know about it, the more they can help bring about the change required to combat this global issue.
One way you can speak up within your community is by booking a presentation of 1.4 Billion Reasons for your community, school, university, workplace, faith group or conference. Alternatively, you can also speak up within your community by organising your own campaign or event.
The Internet is also a great way tell your friends about ways they can make a difference in the fight to end extreme poverty (you can tell your friends about the work we do here). We publish blogs each week explaining simple actions you can take. Check out our How-To guides on social networking and publishing a blog about poverty, for other ways you can speak up in your online community.
Another way you can speak up is by drawing focus to extreme poverty in the media. One way you can do this by writing a letter to the editor of a newspaper or magazine. Alternatively, you can remind our political leaders about these issues, and hold them accountable to their promises by writing a letter to a politician.
As people gain knowledge about the issues of extreme poverty, they gain the power to act to bring an end to it. Use your voice to speak up for those people who don’t have the opportunity or resources to do so.
