What's in your egg this Easter?

This Easter, take some time to think about what’s really going into your Easter eggs.

We are all lovers of the classic chocolate eggs and Easter is the perfect time to indulge your vices. The fillings can be the most delightful part of the egg. This Easter we are asking you to think about fillings in a different light, and opt for the sweetest filling of all, Fair Trade.

If you don’t already know, Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices, Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.

Yesterday we sent off GPP Bunnies Alex, Sian, Zoe and Matt on a search to find out where all the good eggs are hiding in Australian suburb, Fitzroy. The hunt was a huge success, turning up creations in fair trade chocolate at many a shop along the infamous Brunswick St shopping strip.

You could say 'we have come far in Australia'  and that is surely something to celebrate. Continue the momentum moving in your own country/town/suburb/city by keeping an eye out for the FairTrade stamp. It’s your guarantee your dollars go towards sustainable change.

You can check out our hunt on Twitter, and on that note, head to the campaign page at www.globalpovertyproject.com/campaigns/fta for more information on where to find fair trade chocolate retailers. To find out more about buying fairtrade, you can visit the info bank here. Get the most out of your eggs this Easter!

Imagine if all the money we spend on chocolate easter eggs went to feed the poor.OOPS, Then all our dentists would lobby government for a law against using easter egg money for real food.
